Opportunities in Our Office
The Governor's Office offers great opportunities to experience firsthand the inner workings of state government. The Office offers a variety of programs for college students, recent graduates, and graduate students. Below you can find out what opportunities are available as well as information on how to apply.

The Governor's Office James H. Dunn, Jr. Memorial Fellowship
The Dunn Fellowship Program provides bright, highly motivated college graduates a unique opportunity to experience firsthand the operations of state government for one year.
Dunn Fellows are recruited from public and private colleges and universities throughout the nation. Qualified applicants must have completed a bachelor's or higher graduate degree in the 18 months prior to the program's commencement and must have demonstrated a commitment to excellence through academic honors, leadership ability, extracurricular activities and community/public service involvement. The program begins on the first weekday in July and ends on July 15th of the following year.
The Dunn Fellowship is an opportunity for recent graduates to obtain hands-on experience in state government, while obtaining tools for their future careers.
Dunn Fellows are paid $41,588 annually and receive full state benefits.
Michael Curry Summer Internship Program
The Michael Curry Summer Internship Program offers college juniors, seniors, and graduate students in all disciplines (including law) an opportunity to work in one of the agencies under the jurisdiction of the Office of the Governor on a full-time basis for ten (10) weeks during the summer. Positions are available in both Springfield and Chicago.
Deadline to submit application is April 7th, 2024.
Governor's Office of Constituent Affairs Internship
Thank you for your interest in an internship at the Governor’s Office of Constituent Affairs (GOCA). This program provides students an opportunity to experience the operations of state government firsthand.
Interns connect constituents to crucial state services, while developing an expertise in state government programs and functions. GOCA is responsible for all casework and correspondence, including official proclamations and letters from the Governor. Interns additionally have the opportunity to work on special projects throughout the Governor’s Office.
The Office of Equity Internship
The internship program within the Office of Equity provides highly motivated undergraduate or graduate students (including MSW, MPP, MPA, MA, PhD, and law students) an opportunity to advance diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) in State of Illinois government. Office of Equity Interns are recruited from public and private colleges and universities throughout Illinois.
In the program, future DEIA leaders gain hands-on experience in government and obtain tools for public service. Interns are mentored to support DEIA projects in collaboration with the Office of Equity team and will have the chance to develop special DEIA projects and initiatives that leverage their interests and expertise. We are interested in self-directed candidates who thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative work environment. Internships are part-time and unpaid.
